You may configure MAIL MANAGER +PLUS+ via the following options:
A) Select the conferences from which you would like to extract
messages.
On your first trip into the door, Mail Manager +Plus+ sets
you up to receive messages in all conferences that you have
joined from RBBS-PC. You can turn a conference "on" or "off"
by entering the conference number at the prompt. A conference
is selected as "active" if it is surrounded in brackets, such
as:
[MAIN ]
There may be many conferences to choose from. You can save
yourself some time by "stacking" the conference numbers here.
For instance, you can enter:
1 15 20 25 50
...to toggle conferences numbered 1, 15, 20, 25, and 50.
X) Select which messages in your chosen conferences to extract.
Mail Manager +Plus+ will normally download mail based on the
last message that you've read in each conference. Since you
can read mail both online AND offline, and have the option of
telling Mail Manager +Plus+ NOT to update your last message
read markers, you might want to use this option from time to
time to reset them to what you want.
You may set this in a number of ways:
- by entering a specific message number,
- an increment such as +50 or -25,
- "L" to reset to the last message in the conference,
- "L-10" to extract the last 10 messages, or
- just press [ENTER] for no change.
After setting your message marker, you will have two other choices.
The first is to choose what type of messages to select for this
conference. You may choose three possibilities:
- receive ALL messages.
- receive personal only.
- apply the system default (all or personal only) as
selected by configuration option D.
The second is to choose whether or not to receive messages that you
have posted in this conference. The three possibilities are:
- receive your own messages.
- don't receive your own messages.
- Apply the system default (receive or don't receive messages that
you have posted), as selected by configuration option E.
B) Format of downloaded mail packets (Text or QWK).
Set to TEXT if you want to use Mail Manager +Plus+ as a simple
"extract and download" system (all messages in a single
continuous ascii file).
Set to QWK if you want to read and reply offline using a
QWK-compatible mail reader like SLMR.
C) Do you want messages addressed to "ALL" marked as personal in
your QWK packets?
If set to "Y", Mail Manager +Plus+ will add messages addressed
to "ALL" to your QWK packet personal index.
D) Do you want to extract ONLY your personal mail as system default?
If set to "Y", Mail Manager +Plus+ will not extract a message
unless it is addressed to you. (Will also extract messages to
"ALL" if you have option C set to "Y".) You may override this
setting for individual conferences - see configuration option
X.
E) Do you want to extract messages written by you?
If set to "NO", Mail Manager +Plus+ will not include messages
from you in your packet. You may override this setting for
individual conferences - see configuration option X.
F) Do you want to abort the download if no new messages are
found?
You might not want to do this if you would still like to
receive new file listings or updated system news or bulletins.
G) Do you want to have updated bulletins included in your packet?
If set to "Y" all bulletins newer than your previous logon
date for this BBS will be included in your mail packet.
If set to "N", any updated bulletins which the sysop has
designated as mandatory will still be included.
H) Do you want new file listings included in your packet?
If you select this option, a listing of newly-uploaded files
will be included in your mail packet.
This option may not be operational on all systems.
I) Do you want to confirm you wish to receive the packet prior
to the actual download?
If set to "Y", Mail Manager +Plus+ will stop and ask you
whether or not to send you the packet before it starts the
actual file transfer.
J) Which type of file compression do you want to use on your mail
packet?
You can choose from the file compression utilities offered by
your sysop (ZIP, ARC, etc.)
K) Which file transfer protocol do you wish to use?
Choose from the protcols offered by your sysop (Xmodem,
Zmodem, etc.). Set to "N" (None) if you'd like to choose
your preferred protocol on each file transfer.
L) Do you want Mail Manager +Plus+ to tell RBBS-PC that you've
read the mail that you download from this door?
If this is set to NO, both RBBS and Mail Manager +Plus+ will
think that you haven't read the messages that you've downloaded.
(Mail Manager +Plus+ will extract them again your next time in).
M) Do you want Mail Manager +Plus+ to tell RBBS-PC when you read
mail online while in this door?
If set to NO, any messages you read in the door will still be
downloaded in your next mail packet. This can be handy for
checking a message or two before downloading your mail.
If set to YES, the highest message number you read sets your
high message marker, and only higher message numbers will be
included in your next mail packet.
N) Maximum number of messages desired per packet/conference.
There is a predifined limit of total messages that you may receive
in any one mail packet. If you would like to limit your mail
packets to a smaller total number of messages, and/or restrict
each conference to a certain maximum number of messages in each
conference, this is where you do it.
O) Only active conferences in CONTROL.DAT.
If you would like to see only the conferences that you have selected
in your QWK packet, you can cut down the time required to build the
QWK packet considerably by setting this option to "Yes", especially
if this BBS has hundreds of different conferences available.
The downside is that depending on the offline reader you're using,
you may not be able to "ADD" or "DROP" a conference via a REP packet
unless all conferences are listed.
T) TurboKey toggle.
If set to "Yes", Mail Manager +Plus+ will act on 1-character
commands wherever it can, without requiring you to press
[ENTER] afterwards.
Q) Quit the configuration section and return to the main menu.
You have the option of savings your settings for the next time into
Mail Manager +Plus+. If you do not choose to save your settings,
your changes will be valid only for your current Mail Manager +Plus+
session.
